YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Customs Union accession process will be very difficult.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Armen Movsisyan noted the above-said Tuesday during a briefing with news reporters.

“In my view, approximately 120 agreements are in question. It is hard to say a specific period, but the working groups are working night and day,” Movsisyan stated.

According to the minister, even though the price of the Russian natural gas being supplied to Armenia had some bearing, it was not a decisive factor in Armenia’s decision to become a member in the Customs Union.

“We need to correctly assess the potential of our economy,” he added.

As per Armen Movsisyan, over the course of the next 15-20 years, Russia is the best market for Armenia’s products.

To note, following the talks that were held on September 3 in Moscow between Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, Sargsyan had announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs Union and subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union. Aside from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan likewise are members in the Customs Union.
