YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Territorial Administration Minister Armen Gevorgyan on Friday received Andreas Kiefer, Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe (CoE), and Congress Vice-President John Warmisham.

The deputy PM noted that Armenia’s ongoing cooperation with the CoE has become quite productive during the country’s current Chairmanship at the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers, informs the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Territorial Administration.

“We have attached great importance to the issues of local democracy from the very beginning,” Gevorgyan noted.

The deputy PM presented information to the European partners with respect to the reforms that are envisioned for Armenia.

“We have a large reform agenda in the context of local democracy,” he added.

In turn the guests noted that they stand ready to assist in the implementation of the 2012-2014 action plan and the future reforms in Armenia.

They assured that they are ready to continue the cooperation and are open to any collaboration.

At the same time the CoE officials underscored the smooth implementation of reforms, but also the need to take national peculiarities into account.

Reflecting on the international conference of the capital cities of the Council of Europe member states, which kicks off Friday in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan, the guests considered this event to be a good opportunity for exchanging knowhow and establishing ties between local authorities.
