Armenian Sport and Youth Affairs Minister Yuri Vardanyan’s eldest son, Davit Vardanyan, 29, was arrested on the Iran-Armenia border seven to eight days ago.

The Kapan City Police Department sources confirmed this information to Armenian News-NEWS.am

Davit Vardanyan was detained while attempting to smuggle drugs at the border. Subsequently, he was arrested and sent to the detention center of capital city Yerevan’s investigation department.

A criminal case has been instituted on this incident.

Our sources also corroborated that the case has been forwarded to Yerevan

The Police news service, however, denied this information and said there is no such thing.

To note, Sport and Youth Affairs Minister Yuri Vardanyan’s eldest son was arrested at the Iran-Armenia border about a week ago, Zhoghovurd daily reported. “The minister’s son had attempted to smuggle drugs at the border, by keeping them in different parts of his body, but he was caught. The Kapan [city] police have detained Vardanyan [junior]; now, the case has been transferred to the capital city [Yerevan],” Zhoghovurd wrote.
