YEREVAN. – The forthcoming presidential elections in Georgia will start a new phase, which essentially is no different from the first phase but it will reduce tension.

Georgian affairs analyst Haykazun Alvrtsyan noted the above-said during a press conference on Tuesday.

In Alvrtsyan’s words, outgoing Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili was conducting a clear pro-Western policy, which leads to a conflict with Russia and this in turn affects Armenian-Georgian relations.

He added that, by maintaining relations with the West, serving Georgian PM Bidzina Ivanishvili is attempting to ease tensions with Russia.

“With the election of the new [Georgian] president, a new understanding is expected toward Georgian Armenians and Javakhk Armenians.

“Although the hopes are not high, they do exist. And most importantly, with Saakashvili’s exit, an end is put to his unilateral policy,” Haykazun Alvrtsyan concluded.
