Moscow hopes new Georgian authorities will pursue friendly policy toward Russia, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters.

“We wish the people of Georgia to resolve all organizational issues associated with the formation of the new authorities as soon as possible and we hope that these authorities will pursue friendly and neighborly policies with regard to Russia and the current situation,” the Voice of Russia quotes Lavrov.

Russian FM congratulated the people of Georgia, noting that judging by the information they have received, the elections were free and fair.

According to the preliminary data by the Central Election Commission of Georgia—and after the counting of the ballots cast in 97 percent of the polling stations—, Giorgi Margvelashvili seems to be the winner of the presidential elections.
