YEREVAN. – Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan received International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Vice President, legendary pole vaulter Sergey Bubka. 

Sargsyan expressed hope that the world-renowned athlete’s visit to Armenia will contribute to the development of sports in the country, informs the Armenian Government press service.   

“We are glad that you have established cordial relations with the Armenian Athletic Federation and launched new projects. The Government of Armenia will continue to take new measures to popularize sports [in the country],” the PM said, in particular.   

In turn Bubka thanked the Premier for assisting in the development of sports.

“It is important that legendary athletes head the field of sports. We are pleased to see how Armenia is restoring its great traditions in sports,” the IAAF vice president specifically noted.    

It was informed that a modern athletics racetrack will be set up at Hrazdan Stadium in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan.

Sergey Bubka also thanked for hosting in Yerevan the year-ending event to sum up the athletic results of the Association of the Balkan Athletic Federations (ABAF).
