YEREVAN. – President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan on Wednesday met with Chairman Adolf Birkhofer of the Armenian Presidential Council on Nuclear Energy Safety (CNES).

Birkhofer has arrived in Armenia to attend the CNES regular session. 

Sargsyan and Birkhofer reflected on the activities toward raising the safety level of Armenia’s Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) and the latter’s current state, informs the Press Office of the President. The interlocutors recorded that the NPP’s seismic safety level is secured.  

Armenia President and the CNES chief also reflected on the Armenian NPP’s future operations, construction of the new power bloc, and cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Following the talk, President Serzh Sargsyan, together with CNES Chairman Adolf Birkhofer, participated in, and delivered opening remarks at, the session of the Council on Nuclear Energy Safety.
