The Georgia Department of Revenue claims that the infected potatoes were imported from Armenia, and this was confirmed by laboratory tests.

“A concentration of infected potatoes was discovered at [Georgia’s] Sadakhlo, Geghuti and Ninotsminda [border] checkpoints. We [hereby] stress that [, except for Armenia,] potato imports from other countries have not been conducted from these checkpoints,” the abovementioned department stated on Thursday.

To note, however, Artur Nikoyan, a representative of the Armenian State Service for Food Safety, had announced earlier that the potatoes that were exported from Armenia to Georgia were not infected, and this was proved by the laboratory tests that were conducted in Armenia.

To remind, in early November, Georgia returned 50 tons of potatoes back to Armenia. In this connection, Nikoyan informed that he and his associates had visited Georgia and found out that the potato samples that were sent for laboratory tests had not belonged to the patch which Armenia had exported to Georgia.
