Hrachya Harutyunyan’s lawyer brought a claim in the Moscow court against the investigator’s actions, since he had made Harutyunyan appear in court in a women’s robe.

“The accused was taken to court wearing a women’s robe and beach slippers. I believe this is a violation of the law on keeping prisoners,” Harutyunyan’s attorney Ruben Margaryan told Life News.

Margaryan also noted that although Harutyunyan had asked the investigative body to contact his relatives and asked that they bring him clothes, this request was not carried out.

“Is the investigator not responsible for anything?” the attorney asked in anger.

But Margaryan hopes that the court will put an end to the story about the women’s robe. The similar complaints, which were filed with the Russian Prosecutor’s Office and the investigative bodies, have not yielded any results.

To remind, a truck crashed into a passenger bus on July 13 outside Moscow, and it was found out that the truck driver was an Armenian citizen by the name of Hrachya Harutyunyan. The impact of the crash was so powerful that the bus had split in two. The accident claimed 18 lives and injured more than 60 people. The court had Harutyunyan arrested on July 15, and until September 13. In addition, he was brought to the courtroom with slippers and a women’s robe. This fact caused widespread discontent among the Armenian public, and protests were staged across the Russian Embassy in Armenia. On September 12, the court extended Harutyunyan’s pre-trial detention until December 14. He was in hospital for a long time because he had pain around his heart. Now, however, he is in prison. Hrachya Harutyunyan had gone to Russia to earn money in order to have a tombstone built for his son who has died.
