YEREVAN. – Armenian Energy and Natural Resources Minister Armen Movsisyan on Friday received an Iranian delegation led by Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian.

“There is no political problem between Armenia and Iran, and all our efforts are directed at developing and expanding cooperation,” Movsisyan said. “We have great potential for cooperation, and we will have to do our best to make full use of this potential.”

“I hope that we can further develop our ties and make full use of the potential you have noted,” Chitchian stated, in turn. “Today, it is important to pass to the practical phase in two major projects: the construction of Meghri Hydro Power Plant, and the third high-voltage line.”

The Armenian and Iranian energy officials discussed joint projects, and regional cooperation in the electricity sector.

Before arriving in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan, however, the Iranian delegation’s expert group, together with Armenian specialists, visited the Agarak Copper Molybdenum Plant to discuss environmental issues.

To note, the aforesaid plant has been installed with a closed water circulation system that prevents wastewater flow into the Araks River which Armenia and Iran share. The experts stated that the installed system serves its purpose.

In Yerevan, the Iranian delegation also met with Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan.

The delegation is scheduled to be received by President Serzh Sargsyan, too.
