Prime Minister of Armenia, Tigran Sargsyan, attended the official opening of the Business Innovation Forum being convened in Dilijan city.

In his remarks, Sargsyan noted that the forum will contribute to the development of the information technology (IT) sector in Armenia.

In his words, the IT sector makes up 5 percent of Armenia’s GDP and it has 7,000 specialists in the country.

The PM recalled that the IT sector of Armenia had even recorded a 28-percent growth at the outset of the global economic crisis.

“There will be new jobs in the sectors that are related to IT. The IT puts a task that the state annually provide 2,000 specialists to the sector. This means we need to change the emphasis in planning the student spots in the institutions of higher education. We will direct the state budget means to train high-quality IT specialists,” Sargsyan noted, in particular.

In the PM’s words, Armenia also has achieved success in the international specialization of the IT sector. And according to the Mentor Graphics Armenia company, the country manufactures 5 percent of the computer chips worldwide. 

To note, about 120 representatives from the high-tech sector and several other sectors interested in technological investments are participating in the three-day forum.
