YEREVAN. – The protesters against the mandatory cumulative pension plan ended their demonstration in front of the Armenian Presidential Palace, and they submitted their letter of demand (PHOTOS).

There were several hundred protestors. But they announced that their numbers will be larger on Wednesday across the National Assembly (NA) building, as the NA will vote on the proposal to remove the mandatory component from the Law on Cumulative Pension.

The demonstration had started near the entrance of the parliament building, and a large number of police officers were overseeing the protest.

To note, the new cumulative pension plan will come into effect in Armenia on January 1. This plan will be mandatory for those born after 1974 and voluntary for those born before 1974. In line with this plan, 5 percent of the monthly salaries in Armenia will be deducted and mandatorily be allocated to cumulative pension funds.
