YEREVAN. – Because of the special treatment of Armenia, we receive electricity—and not money—from Armenia in return for natural gas.

Iranian Ambassador to Armenia, Mohammad Reisi, stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Friday.

“Iran has no need for electricity. But based on cooperation and the special treatment of Armenia, we prefer not solely ethical interests, but also the friendly interests, and [therefore we] receive the Armenian electricity.

“We consider the cooperation with Armenia, the agreements reached earlier and we remain committed to them,” the Iranian ambassador concluded.

To note, Armenia makes use of the imported Iranian natural gas solely for the operations of Yerevan Thermal Power Plant. The Russian gas is sold to all other consumers in Armenia.
