YEREVAN. – The Meeting of Armenian and Georgian parliamentarians in Alaverdi was in fact the beginning of the Armenian-Georgian parliamentary relations, head of Javakhk union Shirak Torosyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“I appreciate the meeting as there were almost no contacts in inter-parliamentary format. The parties attached great importance to this meeting,” he said.

Torosyan noted that the meeting also identified a range of issues that will be included in the agenda of the Armenian-Georgian inter-parliamentary relations in the future. The sides expressed willingness to discuss current issues and problems.

“It was agreed that all issues of mutual interest should be discussed, and common approaches should be formed,” the MP added.

Referring to the memorandum adopted by the sides, the deputy said that memorandum was adopted on the basis of the two-day conference. The memorandum envisages establishment and development of the Armenian-Georgian relations at the parliamentary level, discussing issues of mutual interest, formation of the agenda as well as the creation of an inter-parliamentary commission.

The delegation headed by Georgian Speaker David Usupashvili visited Armenia on December 14-16.  The plenary session on the prospects for inter-parliamentary cooperation between Armenia and Georgia was held in Alaverdi on December 14.
