Even if a legislative initiative on imposing taxes on remittances from Russia is approved, it will not affect workers from member states of the Customs Union, Armenians of Russia say.

Leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia Vladimir Zhirinovsky put forward an initiative to impose tax on remittances and tax on those who come to Russia to give birth.

Commenting on the initiative, vice chairman of the Union of Armenians of Russia Levon Mukanyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that it would not affect migrants from Armenia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

As for the initiative to collect taxes from those who go to Russia to give birth, Mukanyan said this offer is not clear, as you have to pay for medical services in Russia. He also noted that giving birth in another country is normal practice, and many Russian women prefer to do it ,for example in Paris or in London.

“If the government bans health services for foreign nationals or demands additional taxes, in addition to those they pay, it will lead the country to the Middle Ages. On the contrary, it is necessary to appreciate the desire of people to receive medical care and education in Russia. Another thing is that you must follow that mothers receiving medical care would leave the country,” he said.
