Turkey’s steps to normalize relations with official Yerevan will become more decorative in parallel with the approaching 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Russian Analyst Mikhail Aleksandrov told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“But, now, we see only words. In fact, Turkey is moving in one direction by supporting Azerbaijan’s position and without attempting to understand the essence of the [Nagorno-Karabakh] conflict, its consequences. So, in general, I do not see much action here.

“Some limited measures, which the US and the European Union may sanction, are possible by Turkey. But when they need electricity, they acquire it despite all statements about a blockade,” Aleksandrov said.

Accordingly, the analyst believes that Turkey has so far not given much hope of lifting its blockade of Armenia and genuinely resuming the Zurich process.

“Turkey’s position on the Armenian Genocide likewise prevents this. And this matter, too, continues to remain in a pending state,” Mikhail Aleksandrov concluded.
