YEREVAN. – All Armenian capital city Yerevan Municipality organizations providing public services worked more intensively on New Year’s days.

Between December 31, 2013 and January 7, 2014, the Municipality Emergency Medical Assistance Company received 6,172 calls, reports Yerevan Municipality Information and Public Relations Department.

The majority of these calls were related to cardiovascular and acute respiratory illnesses. In 1,032 of these cases, the patients were taken to hospitals. A total of 2,221 of these calls were made at night hours.

To note, a total of 5,390 calls were recorded during the same period the previous year.

Overall, 20,000-25,000 more calls were received in 2013 which, as per Emergency Medical Assistance Company Director Taguhi Stepanyan, is due to the reforms carried out in this sector and the people’s growing confidence in this service.
