There was a brawl Friday at the Turkish parliament between the MPs of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP).

The AKP had submitted a bill that curtails the powers of the Turkish High Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK), Radikal daily of Turkey reports.

Learning that there is no HSYK representative at the respective discussion and the aforesaid bill makes the Minister of Justice the sole decision-maker, the CHP MPs urged to postpone the discussion until changes are made in the bill.

But the AKP MPs disapproved this suggestion. As a result, the opposition MPs started chanting slogans, whereupon the quarrel turned into a scuffle.

The moderator of the session was forced to call a recess and put off the voting on the bill.
