YEREVAN. – Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Tuesday received Philippe Lefort, European Union (EU) Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, who arrived in Armenia on a farewell visit.

Sargsyan greeted Lefort, who is visiting Armenia for the last time as the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, and stressed that this important position bespeaks the EU interest in regional security and stability, informs the Office of the President.

The President also thanked Lefort for his contribution to the deepening of Armenia-EU cooperation and for his efforts to promote regional security and peace, and he wished the EU official good luck in his future endeavors.

Serzh Sargsyan, however, expressed a deep concern over Azerbaijan’s recent continuous provocations and ceasefire violations at the line of contact between the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing forces. He emphasized that these incidents are a serious obstacle before a progress in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.
