YEREVAN. – Armenia’s integration into the [Russian-led] Customs Union (CU) does not hamper the talks on a common airspace with the European Union (EU).

Government-Affiliated General Department of Civil Aviation (GDCA) Head Artyom Movsesyan noted the abovementioned at a press conference on Tuesday, and in response to a query by Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Movsesyan noted that if a change in the foreign direction may require corrections in other economic sectors, this does not apply to aviation.

“A country must follow the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards to sign such type of agreements. The organization develops the same standards also for Russia, Armenia, and the EU. The predicated agreements can be accepted with various national editing, but they are primarily the same,” the GDCA chief stated.

He added that this is the reason why no problems have risen in the talks with the EU.

“We are ready for talks, and the EU is selecting a negotiating team for us. We are ready to continue the negotiations at any time, since this agreement is very important for Armenia’s aviation,” Artyom Movsesyan said.
