At his meeting with new Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili, who is in Turkey on an official visit, Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Çiçek asked the Georgian leader not to support the process of Armenian Genocide recognition.

During his talk with Margvelashvili, Çiçek also reflected on the Armenian Genocide issue, reports Anadolu news agency of Turkey.

“Armenia and the [Armenian] Diaspora are carrying out a slander campaign against Turkey, for the approaching 2015 [i.e., the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide], in connection with the events in 1915.

“We have approved the position, which you [i.e., Georgia] have shown on this matter to this day; we hope that you continue in this way.

“Please, do not allow our relations to break off,” the Turkish parliament leader told the Georgian president.
