YEREVAN. – The number of fatal traffic accidents in Armenia has reduced in 2013.  

Road Police official, Police Colonel Norik Sargsyan stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Thursday.   

As proof of his words, Sargsyan presented the respective five-year statistics. 

The police official noted that the worst year in Armenia in terms of road accidents was 2008—with 2,202 accidents, 407 casualties, and 3,125 injuries. 

As per Sargsyan, in 2009 the government commissioned the police to develop a strategy and an action plan to reduce the number of traffic accident fatalities by ten percent and over the course of five years.

“I would like to proudly report that our task has been overfulfilled. We have been able to reduce the number of dead by 23 percent,” Colonel Norik Sargsyan stressed.
