OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair James Warlick believes that the parties to Karabakh conflict are committed to finding peaceful negotiated settlement of the conflict.

In an interview with the Voice of America, the diplomat commented on recent escalation and the meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers in Paris.

The Co-Chairs want to create an atmosphere when the parties would be able to move forward to peaceful settlement, Warlick said, adding that he would join his colleagues soon for the visit to the region.

The American diplomat is confident the thing is not whether there will be leverage on the parties, the core issue is political will of the sides. He believes the people of Armenia and Azerbaijan must urge their leadership to refrain from violence, as well as the people of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Asked about possible return of Karabakh to negotiations, James Warlick said “all parties deserve voice at the table”. The mediator emphasized that he had traveled to Nagorno-Karabakh several times and heard their views.

“Their voice deserves to be heard, but ultimately it is up to the parties to decide among themselves how the voice would be heard,” he added.

He assured that opening of Stepanakert airport is also part of dialogue and is an issue of discussion.
