YEREVAN. – Armenia plans to create a national center on fight against drug trafficking in 2014, Secretary of Armenia’s National Security Council said.

Arthur Baghdasaryan emphasized the need to eliminate drug trafficking especially in southern direction.

“Afghanistan is increasing its presence as a drug producer. In this context, Armenia may become a transit country for drug trafficking. We have recently witnessed such attempt when a large batch of heroin was detained on the border with Iran. It is definitely necessary to monitor other directions of the frontier,” he noted.

Baghdasaryan recalled that Armenia continues participating in international anti-drug operations.
