YEREVAN. – No one will oversee the natural gas prices in Armenia instead of the local government agencies.

Robert Nazaryan, Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission, stated the aforesaid at Wednesday’s National Assembly session.

In his words, the commission will continue performing its basic functions, also after the sale of the shares of ArmRusGazprom Company.

“We will discuss the gas operator’s future bids associated with the prices, and we will leave solely the justified expenses. No one will decide on the gas price in our stead,” Nazaryan assured.

During Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Armenia on December 2, 2013, the governments of Armenia and Russia had signed several agreements on the supply of Russian natural gas to Armenia. These agreements included the sale of the remaining 20 percent of the ArmRusGazprom Company shares—which the Government of Armenia owned—to the Russian energy giant Gazprom Company—and to repay the half of Armenia’s accumulated debts for the gas supply—, and the sale of gas to Armenia, at the border, at Russian domestic prices.
