Canadian businessman of Armenian origin has been set free from prison in Cuba and has been sent to Canada.

Sarkis Yacoubian, president of Tri-Star Caribbean import company, was released after spending 2.5 years in jail for corruption, cbcnews reported.

Yacoubian was arrested in 2011 and was sentenced to nine years in jail in April 2013. He was charged with bribery, tax evasion and “activities damaging to the economy”.

The businessman said he was released unexpectedly and did not how this thing happened.

Sarkis Yacoubian was born in Lebanon, studied international relations there and then got education in Montreal. He spent 20 years in Cuba and partnered with the local government on multiple ventures.
