A new prosecutor is appointed in Turkey, and as a replacement for Muammer Akkas, on the ongoing investigations into the Hrant Dink murder case, and the Ergenekon case on the attempt to overthrow the current government of the country.

The duties of Prosecutor Akkas, whom the Turkish authorities recently dismissed for carrying out the “Large Corruption” operation—against numerous Turkish officials and several others—, were transferred to Prosecutor Murat Inam, reports Hürriyet daily of Turkey.

From now on, Inam will head the aforementioned investigations.

After his dismissal, however, Muammer Akkas had stated that they had reached a critical point in Dink’s murder case, as they were going to start arresting state officials.

Hrant Dink was the founder and former chief editor of Agos Armenian weekly of Istanbul, and he was killed on January 19, 2007 in front of the weekly’s office. The ongoing trials into Dink’s murder, however, have not yet exposed those behind this assassination.
