A strong earthquake was recorded in Azerbaijan on Monday afternoon.
A magnitude-5.4 underground shaking was registered in Shamakhi Region, the Azerbaijani media report. The seismic activity was felt in capital city Baku, too.
The Armenian National Seismic Protection Service seismological network recorded a magnitude-5.3 earthquake at 4:06pm, local time, in Azerbaijan, 28 kilometers southeast of Shamakhi city. It measured magnitude 7 at the epicenter.
The hypocenter of the earthquake was 50 kilometers beneath the surface,
The quake was also felt in several settlements of Armenia’s Syunik Region and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, with magnitude 3-4.
