YEREVAN. – The Economy and Finance Ministries of Armenia say to our sources that work has begun in these departments to make amendments in a variety of laws, decisions, and regulations, Hraparak daily reports.

“The reasoning goes something like this: to join a certain Belarus-Kazakhstan agreement, to make our legislation in line with a certain point of a certain RF [i.e., Russian Federation] law.

“The Russian associates are simply laughing at our [officials’] readiness and aspirations to join a non-existing union. They were not even sure that this Customs Union will be, but the Armenians are ‘counting their chickens before they hatch,’” Hraparak writes.

Following the talks that were held on September 3, 2013 in Moscow between Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, Sargsyan had announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs Union and subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union. And the road map for Armenia’s accession to the Customs Union was recently introduced. Aside from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan likewise are members in the Customs Union.
