Aram Harutyunyan, Nature Protection Minister of Armenia, paid an official visit to Iran, and attended the events devoted to the 35th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

In addition, the minister met with Ms. Masoumeh Ebtekar, Vice President of Iran and head of Iran’s Environmental Protection Organization.

They discussed the cooperation between both countries on environmental issues, and their future plans. The parties recorded that relations between the two countries have strengthened with respect to environment protection, and that the process has begun for creating the Garden of Friendship and Peace, on the common border of the two states.

Aram Harutyunyan also met with Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian of Iran. The interlocutors discussed the prospects for alternative energy development in Armenia and in Iran, and the pollution issue of the Araks River which flows between the two countries.

Next, Armenia’s nature protection minister met with Mohammad-Reza Tabesh, head of the environmental protection group at the Iranian parliament. They exchanged views on the legislative mechanisms toward solving environmental issues.

On the final day of his official visit to Iran, the nature protection minister of Armenia attended and delivered remarks at the official opening of the 13th International Environmental Exhibition. At the event, Minister Harutyunyan also spoke with Eshaq Jahangiri, First Vice President of Iran, during which they underscored the solutions to environmental issues.

Harutyunyan also paid visits to the waste recycling plant, nearby capital city Tehran, and the Water Museum of Iran.

And at the Saint Sarkis Armenian Cathedral in Tehran, Aram Harutyunyan met with representatives of the Iranian-Armenian community.
