YEREVAN. – President Serzh Sargsyan offered some explanations on the natural gas agreements which Armenia signed with Russia at the end last year.

Sargsyan responded to the queries posed by the delegates at the Yerkrapah Volunteers Union’s tenth congress on Saturday.

The President noted that many critics attempt to turn upside-down and present everything under a negative light.

He said, however, that the critics silently bypass the price issue.

“Thanks to the signed agreement, the Russian side sells us the gas at the lowest price. Owing to the contract, we will have a stable gas price for five years,” the President added.

He also recalled that the gas prices will not increase for Armenia’s consumers.

As for the sale of the remaining 20 percent of the ArmRusGazprom Company shares—which the Government of Armenia owned—to the Russian energy giant Gazprom Company, Sargsyan stated that the handing over of these shares should not cause concern because, “We have very good legislation.”

But as per Serzh Sargsyan, if anyone is willing to pay $100 million for the 20 percent of the shares, he stands ready to re-negotiate with Russia, and declare the contract null and void.
