YEREVAN. – Prices of basic consumer goods, such as sugar and bread, will not increase after Armenia joins Customs Union, ruling party MP Vardan Ayvazyan said.

Ayvazyan, who is a chairman of parliament's standing committee on economic affairs, believes accession to Customs Union will bring a number of advantages to Armenia.

“Our infrastructure has been directly linked to the CU member states for around 70 years. Nearly 80 percent of transfers are received from Russia,” Ayvazyan said during a press conference on Monday.

“Russia needs Armenia as much as Armenia needs Russia,” he emphasized.

The MP is confident that the talks must be shaped in a way that we could have demand in the organization.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan announced country's intention to join Customs Union last September after his talks in Moscow. The process is expected to be finalized by this May.
