The Verkhovna Rada (Supreme Council)  of Ukraine—which is the country’s parliament—appointed Rada’s Armenian member Arsen Avakov as Acting Internal Affairs Minister, UNIAN news agency reports.

A total of 275 from the 324 registered MPs voted in favor of this decision.

Before the voting, however, Rada’s newly elected chairman Oleksandr Turchynov recalled that this appointment will be in force until the formation of a coalition government.

Arsen Avakov was Head of Kharkiv Regional State Administration from February 2004 to February 2010.
