Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, who is in Sochi, Russia, on a working visit, met with his Russian colleague Dmitry Medvedev.

First, Sargsyan congratulated Medvedev for Russia’s hosting of the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi at a high level, and for the Russian athletes’ successes at this event.

“I welcome you in Sochi. I would like to thank you for arriving in the closing of the Olympic Games. The president of your country was on hand at the opening of the games; this is also a symbol of our friendship and partnership,” the Russian PM specifically noted in turn.

Subsequently, the premiers of the two countries conferred on Armenian-Russian strategic relations with respect to bilateral cooperation in trade, economy, and investments.

“Over one thousand companies with Russian capital operate in Armenia. Russia is in first place in the volume of investments in our country. We hope these investments will continue in various domains of our country,” Sargsyan said.

The Armenian and the Russian PMs expressed confidence that the volume of bilateral trade turnover will continue to gain more momentum once Armenia joins the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space.

For his part, the Russian premier noted that Armenia’s participation in the Eurasian integration processes will give new impetus to the development of economic collaboration between the two countries.

At the invitation of Dmitry Medvedev, Tigran Sargsyan on Sunday attended the closing ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Within the framework of this event, the Armenian PM also had a brief talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
