YEREVAN. – The increase in the natural gas and electricity prices in Armenia has considerably reduced the sale of Armenian goods abroad.

Gagik Makaryan, Chairman of the Republican Union of Employers of Armenia, noted the aforesaid at a press conference on Thursday.

“The rise in the energy prices does not significantly affect the price of fresh fruits, vegetables. But we are forced to export canned food and other goods with high prices, which means our product has no demand outside,” he said.
Makaryan is convinced that Gazprom Armenia Company needs to review its decision on the gas prices in the country.
“Gazprom Armenia must understand that its stance hampers Armenian economy. If Russia has a friendly disposition toward Armenia, it must reduce the price of gas,” he added.

Gagik Makaryan also stressed that the Armenian and the Russian presidents had stated from the very beginning that if Armenia becomes a member in the Customs Union, the price of gas will not change.
