YEREVAN. – The first official visit of Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili will give a new impetus to cooperation between the states, fraternal and friendly relations between Armenia and Georgia, Serzh Sargsyan said.

Welcoming his Georgian counterpart, President Sargsyan congratulated him on the election as president of Georgia. He expressed confidence that during the trip the sides will hold effective discussions on all issues of Armenia-Georgia relations. President Sargsyan noted it is important to hear Mr. Margvelashvili's point on situation in the region.

During talks, the sides discussed a number of programs of mutual interest that are supposed to ensure economic progress of the states.

President Margvelashvili believes the states continue building relations on the basis founded by their predecessors:: friendly relations, cultural ties and people-to-people contacts. He said Armenians of Georgia are doing much for the development of the country, strengthening of the economy and culture. He is convinced that Armenians are not losing their identity and preserve traditions, language and culture.

Georgian president emphasized that Georgia is crossroads of freedom and civilization where different cultures are developing.

President Margvelashvili is confident that his visit to Yerevan is essential in terms of discussions on regional issues. Armenians and Georgians live in the same region, have common future, he said, adding that Armenia has significant participation in the regional projects.
