Georgia President Giorgi Margvelashvili posted on his official Facebook account the photographs of his reunion—during his official visit to Armenia—with his longtime friend Robert Abrahamyan and his family, who live in Etchmiadzin city.

Margvelashvili had met with Abrahamyan back in 1987, when he was serving at the ex-USSR military unit in Etchmiadzin. Abrahamyan, whom Margvelashvili had met accidentally on the street, had hosted the Georgian soldier in his home, and this had become the beginning of their friendship.

“He took care of me like his own grandchild for six months. I had to meet with him and his family when visiting Armenia. Naturally, I wanted to thank him one more time,” the Georgian president wrote in the comment section for the photos.
Margvelashvili stressed that these are precisely the relations that historically link the Armenians and the Georgians to one another.

The Georgian president received a very warm reception at the home of his old friend.

Robert Abrahamyan told Giorgi Margvelashvili that he remembers to this day his joy and pride when he had heard that his longtime friend was elected the president of Georgia, and that he was touched so much by learning that Margvelashvili would be visiting Armenia.
