YEREVAN. – The “Come out to the street” initiative members marched toward and arrived in the Armenian Presidential Palace on Saturday.
Several activists delivered remarks with a loudspeaker, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informs.
The speakers stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin is the main culprit for both the recent Maidan in Ukrainian capital city Kyiv and the March 1, 2008 bloodshed in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan, and that Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan and third—and incumbent—President Serzh Sargsyan are Putin’s accomplices.
The National Self-Determination Union (NSU) members, led by NSU Chairman and ex-presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan, also arrived in the Presidential Palace. The party members brought along the EU flag and a banner that reads, “[Political] party exploitation of March 1 is dastardly.”
Following the presidential election that was conducted in Armenia on February 18, 2008, eight demonstrators and two police officers had died during a confrontation between the pro-government and the opposition forces on March 1 in Downtown Yerevan. But no one has yet been brought to account for the killings.
