YEREVAN. – Prefects were elected Sunday in several villages in Armenia. 

Elections were conducted in the communities of a number of regions, Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned from the Central Electoral Commission. 

But solely one candidate was running for office in some communities, and these candidates were elected village prefects.

Even though the candidates nominated by the ruling Republican Party won in the majority of the rural communities, opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party member Grigor Gevorgyan was elected head of Hovk village in Tavush Region.    
The “Citizen Observer” initiative carried out an observation mission in some communities, and it recorded several dozens of election irregularities.
