YEREVAN. – The victims of tsunami that hit Japan three years ago were honored in Armenia (photo).

The event dedicated to the third anniversary of devastating tsunami was held at the Ministry of Emergency Situations on Tuesday. The participants laid flowers at the monument to rescuers and honored victims of the natural disaster with a moment of silence

“Armenia always felt the help of Japan, and we want to express gratitude on behalf of all employees of the ministry. We want to underline that we will be next to you at hard times,” said Nikolay Grigoryan, deputy head of rescue service.

He recalled that during the first days of the disaster Armenian Ministry said they are ready to help, and the government provided financial aid.

The participants were presented photos of the tragedy and a khachkar installed to rescuers in Spitak to honor memory of tsunami victims in Japan.

Talking to reporters, Minister Armen Yeristyan told about successful cooperation of the Armenian and Japanese ministries.

“In 2010 Japan presented Armenia with 28 fire engines. The sides develop cooperation on seismic safety,” he said.
