YEREVAN. – The health condition of Mamikon Khojoyan, who is released from Azerbaijani captivity, is in average severity.

Karen Manukyan, Head of the Trauma Department at Surb Grigor Lusavorich (Saint Gregory the Illuminator) Medical Center of Armenia’s capital city Yerevan, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He noted that Khojoyan will undergo surgery as soon as his blood parameters and overall condition are regulated.
Manukyan added, however, that the elderly man’s memory is not restored.

“He barely establishes contact; he has consciousness, but it is inadequate; he speaks with difficulty,” the physician noted.

Karen Manukyan informed that Khojoyan will not be operated on in the coming week, since he still receives treatment.
Mamikon Khojoyan, 77, a resident of Verin Karmiraghbyur village of Armenia’s Tavush Region, was taken captive by Azerbaijan on January 28. He suffers from mental illness. Azerbaijan returned the elderly to Armenia on March 4. Preliminary medical examination, however, revealed that Khojoyan has multiple fractures and injuries as well as numerous wounds and cracks. All the injuries indicate that he was tortured while in captivity.
