YEREVAN. – Turkey faces a difficult choice over the Crimean issue, Armenian turkologist Anush Hovhannisyan stated at a press conference on Friday.

As per Hovhannisyan, on the one hand, Turkey speaks in favor of the preservation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity yet, on the other hand, it is dependent on Russia in numerous directions, and it does not want to deteriorate relations.
According to the turkologist, Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan will attempt to make use of the Crimean issue for his domestic policy interests, too.

Hovhannisyan noted that considering the political tension in Turkey and the processes that are taking place in the country in recent times—and which do not reflect all too well on the PM’s standing—, Erdogan is trying to make use of the situation in Crimea by drawing parallels between the Maidan of Ukraine and the demonstrations in Turkey and showing to his citizens: “See where the interference by outside forces leads to.”
