A total of 95.5% of those who participated in Sunday’s referendum in Crimea voted for the peninsula’s unification with Russia.

The aforesaid is attested by the official data received from half of the polling stations, Interfax news agency reported citing Chairman Michail Malishev of the Referendum Commission.   

A total of 3.5 percent of the voters, however, cast their ballots in favor of Crimea staying as an autonomous region of Ukraine, and one percent of the ballots were declared invalid.

According to official data, a total of 81.36 percent of Crimea’s population participated in the referendum.
