YEREVAN. – Mamikon Khojoyan, who is released from Azerbaijani captivity, will undergo an operation on Wednesday.

Karen Manukyan, Head of the Trauma Department at Surb Grigor Lusavorich (Saint Gregory the Illuminator) Medical Center—where  Khojoyan is being treated—of Armenia’s capital city Yerevan, told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Manukyan noted that Khojoyan will be taken to the Intensive Care Unit in the afternoon, be operated on, and, on Thursday, he will be taken back to the Trauma Department.

After the arm bone surgery, however, Khojoyan will remain in hospital for ten to fifteen days more.

Incidentally, the elderly man’s memory has somewhat restored; he recognizes his relatives, and he is able to speak and answer questions.

Mamikon Khojoyan, 77, a resident of Verin Karmiraghbyur village of Armenia’s Tavush Region, was taken captive by Azerbaijan on January 28. He suffers from mental illness. Azerbaijan returned the elderly to Armenia on March 4. Preliminary medical examination, however, revealed that Khojoyan has multiple fractures and injuries as well as numerous wounds and cracks. All the injuries indicate that he was tortured while in captivity.
