YEREVAN. – The Armenian National Statistical Service on Monday issued official data, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reported.

“According to the data, the bread manufacture in Armenia dropped by 1.3 percent, that of yogurt by 1.9 percent, [and] sour cream by about 20 percent in January and February of this year, as compared to the same period last year.

“The reduction in sour cream consumption is primarily explained by a decrease in the purchasing power of the population, whereas in the case of bread and yogurt the problem is the population decline.

“The reduction in essential goods consumption [in Armenia] is observed already for several months,” Haykakan Zhamanak wrote.
