STEPANAKERT. – Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) President Bako Sahakyan signed a decree on Tuesday.

According to the decree, NKR Defense Army military unit commander, Senior Lieutenant Harutyun Safaryan is posthumously awarded with the “For Service in Battle” medal for his courage during the protection of the NKR state border.

Senior Lieutenant Harutyun Safaryan was mortally wounded as a result of a land mine explosion on Monday. Safaryan (born in 1987) was mortally wounded while conducting a combat mission at the military base of the protection area of a Defense Army unit stationed in the southern direction of the Line of Contact between the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing forces.       

An investigation is carried out find out the details of the incident, the Defense Army news service informed.
