YEREVAN. – Irrespective of the makeup of the Government of Armenia, the objective of the country’s Customs Union (CU) accession is not in doubt.

CIS Institute Armenia Country Director, political scientist Aleksandr Markarov told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

To the question as whether the resignation of Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan—who is also chairman of the CU membership preparation committee—may adversely affect the pace of Armenia’s CU integration, Markarov responded that time constraints are not fundamental for this process.

“If the general international situation does not change, it is not important whether this will take place in May, or in September,” he added.

As per the analyst, the acceleration of Armenia’s CU integration processes is a political decision, which the Armenian government was implementing at the level of holding events.

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan on Thursday offered his resignation to President Serzh Sargsyan, and the President approved the PM’s resignation. This automatically means the resignation of the entire government. Armenia’s Customs Union accession process is scheduled for completion by the end of May.
