YEREVAN. – Mamikon Khojoyan, who was released from Azerbaijani captivity, was taken back to his village, Verin Karmiraghbyur. 

Gagik Manukyan, Head of the Intensive Care Unit at Surb Grigor Lusavorich (Saint Gregory the Illuminator) Medical Center—where  Khojoyan was treated—of Armenia’s capital city Yerevan, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that they took Khojoyan back to his home village on Friday, and with an ambulance.

His health is good, and he has recovered, Manukyan added. 

Khojoyan’s family members had thanked the hospital for his treatment and transportation back to his village.

Mamikon Khojoyan, 77, a resident of Verin Karmiraghbyur village of Armenia’s Tavush Region, was taken captive by Azerbaijan on January 28. He suffers from mental illness. Azerbaijan returned the elderly to Armenia on March 4. Preliminary medical examination, however, revealed that Khojoyan had multiple fractures and injuries as well as numerous wounds and cracks. All the injuries indicated that he was tortured while in captivity. Mamikon Khojoyan underwent an arm surgery on March 19. He was to be discharged on Monday, but the doctors kept him in the hospital for several more days, to remove the surgical sutures.
