YEREVAN. – The new National Assembly (NA) speaker will be from the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).

RPA MP, NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs Chairman Vardan Ayvazyan told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“It depends on the political majority, the Republican [Party], as to who the new [NA] speaker will be. Of course, I don’t want to exclude our coalition forces but, in my view, he will be from RPA,” Ayvazyan noted.

To the query as to specifically who may be the new parliament chair, Vardan Ayvazyan responded: “There are many options; I don’t want to make a prediction.”

On Sunday, Hovik Abrahamyan was appointed the new Prime Minister of Armenia. As a result, Abrahamyan will resign from his capacity as NA Speaker, and elections for the new National Assembly leader will be held in a foreseeable future.
