YEREVAN. – The Azerbaijani side is trying to politicize the issue of captives, former Ombudsman Larisa Alaverdyan said.

Alaverdyan, director of Against Legal Arbitrariness NGO, said Hakob Injighulyan's case differs from those of Mamikon Khojoyan and Arsen Khojoyan.

“He appeared on Azerbaijani side dressed in a military uniform and being on duty,” she emphasized.

Referring to Azerbaijani media reports saying Injighulyan wants to be transferred to the third state, former Ombudsman said they are trying to politicize the issue, casting а shadow over the Armenian army. The repatriated servicemen had never been sentenced in Armenia, unlike in Azerbaijan where they get long-term sentence.

Armenian soldier Hakob Injighulyan (born in 1991) found himself in the territory under the control of Azerbaijan on August 8, 2013. He was taken to Azerbaijani capital city Baku the next day. The ICRC was able to meet with him only 12 days after his captivity. To note, Injighulyan was made to wear Azerbaijani military uniform and give several interviews.
